Boysenberry Lemonade Smash

  • 2 T sugar

  • 1 t lemon zest

  • 8 mint sprigs

  • 2 T simple syrup

  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters

  • 1⁄2 dry pint boysenberries (or blackberries), plus more for garnish

  • 3 oz vodka

  • 2 oz prepared lemonade

  • Ice

Place sugar and lemon zest on a plate and mix with fingers to combine. Run a slice of lemon around the rim of two old fashioned glasses. Roll glasses through the sugar mixture to coat the rims. Set aside.

Place the mint sprigs, syrup, bitters, and berries into a cocktail shaker. Muddle to smash berries and mint leaves and meld flavors. Add vodka and a handful of ice. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Fill glasses with ice and strain half the mixture into each glass. Float 1 oz lemonade on top of each drink.

Garnish with a sprig of mint and a couple of boysenberries.
