Gluten-Free Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats
Your canine friends will love these. I try to limit wheat in my dogs’ diets, but feel free to use whole wheat flour in place of a GF blend if you wish. It may seem weird, but pumpkin is great for your dog, and most dogs love peanut butter.
11⁄4 c gluten-free flour blend (such as Bob’s Red Mill One-for-One) or whole wheat flour
1⁄3 c pumpkin puree (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
1⁄4 c natural peanut butter (Check to be sure it does NOT contain Xylitol, a sweetener which is
highly toxic to dogs)
1 egg
1-2 T beef or chicken broth (or water)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a sheet pan with parchment and set aside.
Place flour blend, pumpkin, peanut butter, and egg in a large bowl and stir to combine. Use your hands to knead dough until it comes together, adding a bit of broth if it seems too dry.
Turn dough onto a floured work surface and roll out until about 1⁄2” thick. Using dog treat cookie cutters (or any shape), cut out treats and place on prepared sheet pan.
Bake until golden and crisp, about 35-40 minutes depending on size of cookie cutters and thickness of dough. Cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
Notes: Remember, there are some things dogs should NEVER eat: NO xylitol, chocolate, avocado, cherries, grapes/raisins, tomatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, onions, garlic, macadamia nuts. This list is not exhaustive; consult your vet if you are not sure.
